The MOHSTEN Ethos: Intentional Luxury

Ethical & Eco-Conscious Practices

True responsibility in fine jewelry shouldn't hide behind vague sustainability buzzwords. At MOHSTEN, we focus on concrete, verifiable actions: localized manufacturing, recycled precious metals, and strictly vetted gemstones.

By keeping our production loop small and our business model lean, we prioritize eco-conscious craftsmanship over mass-market volume.

Eco-Conscious Manufacturing & Zero Waste

We reject mass factory production in favor of a localized, low-impact creation cycle that keeps our carbon footprint minimal.

  • Sustainably Refined Metals: Our rings are cast right here in Auckland by a premier heritage casting house, utilising top-tier, sustainably refined and recycled gold and platinum. Members of Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).
  • Zero Metal Waste: Fine jewellery production inherently creates metal dust and tiny fragments. Every single grain of gold or platinum at our Remuera bench is captured, melted down, and recycled directly back into the refining loop.
  • Recycled & Natural Packaging: Our signature presentation boxes are entirely plastic-free, crafted strictly from recycled cardboard and natural linen designed for long-term keepsake storage rather than disposal.

Ethical Gemstone Sourcing

We do not grade our own stones or make unverified claims. We rely on independent, globally recognized standards to ensure ethical transparency.

  • Conflict-Free Diamonds: Every natural diamond we source is strictly vetted via the Kimberley Process to guarantee entirely ethical, conflict-free origins.
  • Independent Certification: We believe in absolute transparency. Every central diamond and major precious gemstone we select is backed by independent GIA or IGI certification to verify its exact origin and grading.
  • Responsible Curation: Instead of bulk-buying mass-mined parcels, Hayley and Jess personally hand-select and individualise each stone to match our strict aesthetic and ethical standards.

The Low-Impact Atelier Model

Traditional luxury retail relies on high-overhead, carbon-heavy commercial storefronts. We engineered a direct, sustainable alternative.

  • Minimal Operational Footprint: Operating our design studio and workshop under a single residential roof in Remuera keeps our daily energy consumption and operational waste exceptionally low.
  • Lean Local Pipeline: From our Auckland casting house to our dedicated local stone setters, our primary manufacturing network exists within a tight geographic radius, drastically minimizing transit emissions.
