Congratulations on your new piece! At MOHSTEN we take great pride in crafting the most meaningful jewellery from the finest materials. Every piece of jewellery is crafted to stand the test of time. It is important to be considerate of the daily wear your jewellery experiences. Like most things, jewellery will experience signs of wear and tear over its lifetime and with special care your jewellery can also be enjoyed by the next generation. We recommend taking the time to read the following care guideline. This has been designed to help you preserve and protect your jewellery for years to come.
Day To Day Wear
To maintain the beauty of your jewellery on a day-to-day basis, we recommend that you avoid any material which can form a film around the gemstone and precious metal. For example; moisturisers, hairspray, soaps or similar substances. These films may make your jewellery appear dull and lifeless.
We recommend removing your jewellery when participating in sports or recreational activities, heavy lifting, swimming or cleaning. When force or impact is applied to the diamonds, gemstones, metal and settings, damage and deformations can occur.
Even though diamonds are one of the hardest minerals on earth, they can still chip, shatter, or break during impact.
Chemicals and harmful fluids such as those found in household cleaning products, spa's and pools can also damage the gemstones and precious metal.
It is important to examine your jewellery often to make sure the settings are tight and secure. Claw settings are particularly delicate and vulnerable. If any loose settings are discovered please contact us to arrange for your jewellery to be professionally inspected. We recommend servicing your jewellery every one to two years. Should your piece take a knock, we recommend booking it in for inspection.
Cleaning Your Jewellery
To keep your jewellery looking its best, we recommend cleaning your pieces once a week.
For simple at home cleaning, follow these steps:
- Soak your jewellery in warm water with dishwashing liquid for about 10-minutes.
- Then use a soft toothbrush to brush any dirt or residue, be sure to try and get under any diamond/gemstone settings as best you can.
- Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Complementary Servicing
They may be made from some of the strongest precious materials, but jewellery, like anything precious, needs to be looked after and maintained over its lifetime to ensure it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
At MOHSTEN, your engagement ring will enjoy three complimentary services after purchase taking it through the first 5 years of its life. We recommend the first service after a year, then every 2 years there after.
Here we’ll give your beautiful ring a full check-up, where we will check and tighten any gemstone settings, professionally clean it and give it a full polish. We’ll also be able to advise you if there is any maintenance or repair work required.
With every new Engagement Ring purchase, you will receive one complementary resize up to 3 sizes within the first six months of purchase.
Care should be taken to make sure your correct ring size is ordered before purchase to avoid unnecessary resizes. In the case where you need a ring size adjusted please note that a faint line can sometimes be visible at the join.
Repairs
Even with great care, jewellery can become damaged and in need of repair. MOHSTEN offer a full repair and maintenance service for our customers. If the damage is deemed to be a manufacturing fault we will repair the jewellery free of charge, otherwise a charge may apply.
Any jewellery requiring repair will be assessed by MOHSTEN's expert jewellers.
To help, below we have specified the type of damage that we consider to be a manufacturing fault vs general wear and tear.
Examples of the type of damage that is deemed to be a manufacturing fault*:
- Loose stones as a result of the jewellery relaxing, often identified within the first few months after crafting has been completed.
- Breakage due to weak solder
- Cracking along the resize line
- Broken springs on clasps
- Popped out necklace chain joint
- Claws that are not flat on the stone (e.g. leading to catching on clothing)
Examples of the type of damage that is deemed to be general wear and tear:
- A ring that has been bent out of shape (distorted rings)
- Accidental damage caused to jewellery (e.g. being run over by car)
- Broken or knotted links in a necklace or chain
- Loosening of a clasp over time
- Claws that require re-tipping
- Chipped, cracked or broken gemstones
- Damage to the jewellery caused by yourself or another party
- Loss or theft of your jewellery
- Scratches, dents or marks to any metal surface;
- Stones that require repolishing/re-faceting (e.g. sapphires)
- The wearing of rhodium plating
- Wear on base of the shanks (e.g. dents on jewellery from coming into contact with other objects)
- Wearing down of the underside of the claws (e.g. baskets wearing down from diamonds)
- Deteriorated metal quality due to your jewellery being worn in a spa or pool.
*Providing there is no other evidence of damage to your jewellery
