We begin by getting to know you, your partner’s unique style, and your budget. Whether you have a firm vision or need guidance, this relaxed, no-pressure session is about bringing your ideas to the table. We’ll discuss design aesthetics, metal choices, and timeline expectations.
2. Stone Selection & Concept Design
(1–2 Weeks)
The MOHSTEN Difference: We believe in bringing your vision to life early. While we guide you through the 4Cs and source a curated selection of world-class lab-grown, natural diamonds or coloured gemstones for you to choose from, we also draw up initial sketches and preliminary design renders. This allows you to visually explore how your chosen stone will sit within different concepts from day one.
3. Precise 3D CAD & Unlimited Refinement
(1–3 Weeks)
Once your stone and initial concept are locked in, we translate those sketches into highly detailed, precise 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models. This gives you an exact, true-to-scale preview of your ring from every single angle. This stage is entirely collaborative, we offer unlimited design revisions to ensure every prong, basket detail, and band width is absolutely flawless before moving to the workbench.
4. Master Craftsmanship & Delivery
(4–6 Weeks)
The moment you give your final approval, your ring transitions from a digital blueprint into a tangible, physical heirloom. We manage a strict, hyper-localised production pipeline right here in Auckland to bring your vision to life. Once it clears the final bench inspection, your piece is secured in our signature MOHSTEN packaging, ready for you.

1. Local Heritage Casting
The moment you approve your 3D digital blueprint, your ring transitions from concept to physical reality. The piece is cast into premium, sustainably sourced solid gold or platinum by a premier local Auckland heritage casting house, anchoring your heirloom in traditional New Zealand trade excellence.
2. Master Bench Goldsmithing (Remuera Atelier)
The raw precious metal casting arrives directly at Jess’s private bench in Remuera, Auckland. Applying her rigorous classical training from the Peter Minturn Goldsmith School, she meticulously cleans the metal, hand-assembles the ring components, refines the setting, and executes a precise pre-polish to sharpen its architectural form.
3. Precision Diamond & Gemstone Setting
To guarantee absolute, lifelong stone security, your ring is passed to an industry-leading master diamond setter right here in Auckland. Every certified lab-grown diamond, natural diamond, or vibrant precious gemstone is expertly micro-set under a microscope for flawless alignment, structural integrity, and maximum light performance.
4. High-Luxury Polish & Multi-Point Vetting
Your engagement ring returns to our Remuera workshop for its final high-luxury mirror polish, bringing out the ultimate fire and brilliance of the precious metal.
Jess applies her diamond grading and gemological training to conduct a strict, multi-point technical inspection under high magnification to verify the piece is structurally flawless and built to endure generations of daily wear.

How much does a custom engagement ring cost at MOHSTEN?
Because every bespoke ring is made to order, the final cost is tailored to your choice of metal, design complexity, and center stone. Most of our custom commissions begin from $3,800, with no extra fees for the design process itself.
To bring your piece to life, a 50% deposit is taken to begin crafting at the workbench, with the remaining balance due upon completion. We pride ourselves on working transparently with you to maximize your beautiful investment.
What if the 3D design isn’t exactly what I envisioned?
Your complete confidence is our absolute priority. During our 3D CAD phase, we offer unlimited design revisions, allowing you to tweak every single detail until it is absolutely perfect. We will never begin the physical crafting process at the workbench until you are 100% in love with the design and give us your final approval.
Do you offer virtual consultations if I don't live in Auckland or Hamilton?
Absolutely. We regularly design bespoke rings for clients across New Zealand, Australia, and internationally. Our virtual consultations offer the exact same high-touch, educational experience as our Private Suite appointments. We use high-definition video and detailed 3D renders to ensure you are confident in every detail, and we offer secure, insured global shipping.
Can I incorporate a family heirloom stone into a new design?
Yes, we love bringing new life to sentimental pieces. During your consultation, we can assess your heirloom diamonds or gemstones to see how they can be safely incorporated into a modern, bespoke MOHSTEN design.
