LIFETIME WARRENTY & AFTERCARE
MOHSTEN Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty & Aftercare
At MOHSTEN, we pride ourselves on exceptional New Zealand craftsmanship and the timeless quality of our fine jewellery. Every piece we create undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure it is built to be cherished for a lifetime. To give you absolute peace of mind, we stand behind our work with a comprehensive Manufacturing Warranty.
New Zealand Consumer Law Protection
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA). If you experience a problem with a piece purchased from MOHSTEN:
-
Minor Faults: If the issue is minor and can be repaired, we will fix it free of charge within a reasonable timeframe.
-
Major Faults: If the issue is major as defined under the CGA (e.g., unsafe, fundamentally unfit for purpose, or structurally unrepairable), you are entitled to a full replacement, refund, or compensation for the reduction in the item's value.
MOHSTEN Warranty Coverage
In addition to your rights under New Zealand law, we provide a structured structural warranty tailored to the nature of each piece of fine jewellery:
-
Engagement, Wedding & Custom Rings
-
Coverage: Lifetime Manufacturing Warranty
-
Guarantees against any structural defects in the metal setting or craftsmanship from the date of collection or delivery.
2. Fine Jewellery (Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets & Pendants)
-
Coverage: 2-Year Manufacturing Warranty
-
Guarantees against manufacturing faults in delicate components such as chains, clasps, and earring posts from the date of purchase.
3. Precious Gemstones & Diamonds
-
Coverage: Lifetime Characteristics Warranty
-
Applies to the verified grading, authenticity, and selected characteristics of your Lab-Grown Diamonds, Earth-Mined Diamonds, or precious Gemstones at the time of sale. This covers manufacturing defects relating to stone setting security but excludes physical damage to the stone itself post-purchase.
What is Covered Under Our Manufacturing Warranty?
A manufacturing defect refers to an issue caused by an error in the creation process before it reaches you. Covered defects include:
-
Porosity, surface blemishes, or casting blisters in the precious metal.
-
Uneven or unstable stone settings identified at the time of pick-up or during a routine MOHSTEN inspection.
-
Unstable or faulty component joins (such as failing solder lines).
What is Not Covered? (Everyday Wear & Tear)
Fine jewellery, especially rings worn daily, is subjected to physical friction and force. Our Manufacturing Warranty does not cover accidental damage, neglect, theft, loss of gemstones due to impact, or general wear and tear.
Common examples of issues not classified as manufacturing defects include:
-
Bent or worn prongs: Over time, claws can catch on clothing, bend out of alignment, or thin out due to daily friction, allowing a gemstone to fall out.
-
Scratches and dents: Precious metals (Gold, Platinum) are malleable. Surface scratches, scuffs, and minor shape changes are expected outcomes of daily wear.
-
Chipped or broken gemstones: Diamonds and sapphires are incredibly hard, but they can crack, chip, or break if struck at a weak angle or subjected to an impact.
-
Chemical discoloration: Exposure to harsh household cleaners, chlorine (pools/hot tubs), perfumes, or makeup can discolor metals and degrade rhodium plating.
Important: Third-Party Alterations
To preserve the structural integrity of your MOHSTEN piece, any repairs, resizing, polishing, or maintenance work must be performed exclusively by MOHSTEN artisans. Allowing a third-party jeweller to perform any work on your piece will immediately void your Lifetime Warranty.
The MOHSTEN Complimentary Annual Aftercare Plan
To help maintain the breathtaking brilliance of your jewellery, all custom MOHSTEN rings include a complimentary annual check-up. Once a year, you are invited to return your ring to us. Our jewellers will:
-
Perform a professional ultra-sonic clean and steam treatment.
-
Inspect all prongs, claws, and settings under magnification to ensure stone security.
-
Provide an assessment of any required maintenance due to general wear.
Please note: Professional metal polishing or rhodium re-plating to remove everyday scratches falls outside the warranty but can be provided for a nominal service fee.
